“SPECIAL EFFECTS

It's great to see a band who put a lot of effort into their performance and make sure the sound (and volume) is just right for the venue they are in.

Ripple Effect were working as a three-piece when I saw them at the massive Queen's Arms pub and it was obvious from the start that they were a way-above-average band.

The trio, comprising singer Sandra Castillo, guitarist Dave Masters and drummer and technical whizkid Juancar Uris often have a bass player too but they made superb used of backing tracks to add the extra instruments.

In Sandra they have a magnificent singer who is not afraid to tackle numbers usually associated with male vocalists. So in the first set Sandra made a terrific job of George Ezra's catchy Shotgun, Steppenwolf's raunchy rocker Born To Be Wild, AC/DC's rock anthem Highway To Hell and Queen's singalong I Want To Break Free.

Ripple Effect's song selection was great too with them providing a lovely mix of rock, pop, Indie, disco, rock 'n roll and country.

The second set was just as good and the threesome attracted some dancers. Among the highlights were a rousing version of Blink 182's All The Small Things; and an imaginative interpretation of Bruno Mars' classic dancer Uptown Funk.

And how great it was to hear Sandra tackle (magnificently) a current hit -- Miley Cyrus' Flowers. Not many acts are brave enough to attempt chart material.

There was a perfect balance between vocals and instruments and Juan did a great job on backing vocals. My only suggestion would be that Sandra would do well to perform more Abba and Blondie songs in their set. They would be ideal for her voice.

Do try to catch Ripple Effect when they are at a venue near you. ”

Stanstead Abbotts Village Club.

Ripple Effect were a stand in band for a band that cancelled at the last minute,so we didn't know them or their music. They were absolutely brilliant and played a good array of songs that appealed to all tastes.

They were so good that we booked them again twice for next year.”
